Below are the details for the upcoming dates. Please let me know the days and time. Maple is always going to be a problem with potential blotching. The flooring manufacturers probably spend a lot of time perfecting their recipe. No magic bullets. Check out The Wood Whisperer on Youtube - he has 2 or 3 videos on finishing blotchy woods. All pretreatments/conditioners work the same way -- sealing off the wood, because the wood isn't going to absorb stain evenly. You are going to find a dozen suggested solutions. So first thing you do is get a bunch maple boards, I like about 1/4" x 2.5" x 18" and test each method and view the results. Write down your recipe on each board and save the test pieces for future reference. Myself, if using a pretreatment on maple, I use 2 coats of a 1:10 mix of water and PVA glue (Titebond III). I also use dyes rather than stain (General Finishes Dye Stains) which may or might not reduce tendency to blotch. As you can see from the last pic, I have a ledge at the deep end of the garage that is 3ft deep and 7 inch tall. Because of the ledge the Garage is too short for the new car. The car has a ground clearance of 5.5 inches. If I can park the car on a raised platform, then the front of the car can stay over the ledge. This is what I'm trying to build. (Sorry about the crappy diagram) Green lines are 4x4 Ground Contact Pressure-Treated Timber of 8ft length. Red lines are 4x4 Ground Contact Pressure-Treated Timber of 12ft length. Whites space are basically space between two beams. Black boxes are two 4-inch curb ramps from Amazon My questions are 1. What would be the recommended spacing between green beams 2. How do I connect the green beans to the red beams 3. Any thing else I should know about. Thank you!
