The library's main lighting system is a standard 3-way setup, with the main supply at the east entrance and secondary power drawn from the reference desk at the opposite end. This electrical box also includes 4-way wiring for the auditorium area, connecting to the auxiliary subpanel, which introduces dual current sources. While this might be uncommon, the previous inspection passed since the separation of lines is quite evident. The circuit for the auditorium is dedicated to low-voltage lighting and fans serving multiple common areas. Now, here's where it gets interesting. During installation of a dimmer switch, I found only one cluster of neutral wires, though I anticipated seeing a second grouping. All neutrals were combined. Coincidentally, no secondary loads are currently in use in this box, but there is new load supplied to the nearby office section, so that circuit is active. For further details, the historic wing's system runs on a GFCI breaker (marked blue), while the new auditorium zone uses a conventional breaker (yellow indicator). Having two incoming power lines in a box is entirely acceptable provided all internal wiring and downstream runs are kept logically separated; this means looping both hot and neutral for each input distinctly, potentially ending up with two groups of white wires as well. If deploying a multiwire branch system that contacts switches for different lights—some on black and white, some on red and white—that's reasonable practice. However, after a split, if those separate runs return to a single box, neutrals and hot lines must be treated as unique, as if they're feeding from entirely distinct sources, to avoid cross-circuit issues. (For the detail-oriented) When adding new subpanels or entire branch frameworks, it is advisable to complete a full load analysis for the property and every panel. Reference instructions at the end of the NEC guidebook can assist with this. Nonetheless, even when expanding to include a complete workspace or annex, it's rarely necessary to upgrade to 400 amps unless your anticipated demand truly warrants it. Thanks I see them next week.
