Hey, I finally got the chance to check out that trail we talked about. The weather was perfect, not too hot and just a slight breeze. We started early in the morning and the forest was incredibly quiet. Made it to the summit around noon. The view was absolutely worth the climb. I brought along that new lightweight backpack I was telling you about. It made a huge difference. Definitely plan on going back next month when the leaves start changing. Let me know if you want to join. We could make it a full day trip and pack a picnic this time. I know a great spot near the lake about halfway up. The whole hike took us about four and a half hours with plenty of breaks. I was surprised how steady the trail was. A few steep parts near the end but nothing too technical. I remembered to bring extra water this time which saved us. Overall it was a really solid day outside.

I tried making that pasta dish you mentioned. It actually came out pretty well for a first attempt. I used fresh basil from the garden which gave it a nice flavor. I was a little worried about the sauce being too thin but it thickened up nicely after simmering for a bit. I added a bit of garlic and red pepper flakes for some heat. Next time I think I will try it with some grilled chicken on top. The recipe was pretty straightforward but I did have to improvise on a couple of things because I did not have the exact ingredients. Overall it was a solid weeknight dinner. I will send you the link to the recipe I kind of followed. Let me know if you have any other easy suggestions. I am trying to cook more at home this month. It has been fun experimenting.
Also, I finally started reading that book series you recommended. I am about halfway through the first one and I am hooked. The character development is really well done. Anyway, hope you are doing well. Let us catch up properly this weekend.
