I finally finished that series you were asking about. Took me a while because I kept pausing to rewatch certain scenes. The character development in the later episodes really picks up. I think you would enjoy it based on what you usually like. The pacing is a bit slow in the middle but the ending makes up for it. Let me know if you want to borrow the book.
