Points Expiring Today: Walmart (+1,456.00) - Yours

I ended up going to that little bookstore on Elm Street you mentioned last week. It was charming in a slightly chaotic way — stacks of paperbacks everywhere and the owner had a cat sleeping on the counter. I asked the owner for a recommendation and he handed me something I'd never heard of called The Starless Sea. I'm only about fifty pages in but the prose is gorgeous so far. He also pointed me to a used copy of Piranesi which I grabbed because I've heard the name but never read it. The whole place smelled like old paper and coffee and there was a corner with a creaky armchair that felt like it was waiting for someone to sit and read all afternoon. I think you'd really like the vibe. Anyway I just wanted to say thanks for the tip — I'll probably go back this weekend to browse more.

We should grab lunch soon and I can tell you more about it. Let me know what your schedule looks like next week. I'm free Tuesday and Thursday after noon.

I finally tried that fermentation project I kept talking about. I started with a simple batch of sauerkraut because I figured cabbage is forgiving. Shredded it all up with a mandoline — nearly took a fingertip off in the process so lesson learned there. Packed it into a big jar with salt and caraway seeds and I've been watching it bubble for the last four days. The smell is honestly pretty intense but in a pleasant sour kind of way. I also started a small batch of kombucha using a starter I got from a friend. It's sitting on my counter looking like a science experiment with the SCOBY floating on top. I'm not entirely sure I'm doing it right but supposedly it's hard to mess up. My kitchen is starting to look like a tiny biology lab. I'll let you know how the kraut tastes when it's ready — if it's good I'll bring you a jar. Also I think I need to buy more jars because this is getting out of hand.
